Abstract
The rate of interchange of uranium atoms between tetravalent uranous ion and hexavalent uranyl ion in sulphuric acid solutions has been measured using U233 as a radioactive tracer. Interchange takes place most readily under the influence of light. Values are given for the rate of exchange for various conditions. Some correlation is made between the electrochemical behavior of the system and the observed rates of exchange. Suggestions for future study are made.
