First Experimental and Clinical Results of Isolated Liver Perfusion with Cytotoxics in Metastases from Colorectal Primary

Abstract
Up to now the most effective treatment of disseminated liver metastases of colorectal primary has been intra-arterial infusion chemotherapy. The concept of delivering large doses of cytostatics to malignant tumors via vascular isolation was introduced in the 1950s. In an isolated perfusion system, the tumor-bearing liver may be supplied with a high concentration of cytostatics during the perfusion period, while systemic side effects of the drug can be avoided by complete isolation of the perfused area.
