Abstract
Phonon‐dispersion curves along the [0110], [1120], and [0001] symmetry directions of the h.c.p. metal cadmium have been measured by diffuse scattering of X‐rays at 88 K. A general interatomic force‐constant model has been used to fit the phonon frequencies and interactions up to at least sixth neighbours have to be taken into account. A frequency‐distribution function has been calculated and used to calculate the specific heat and anisotropic Debye‐Waller factor. Finally, by identifying the calculated frequency dispersion curves to the curves obtained from X‐ray scattering experiments, the parameters of a pseudopotential model are calculated. Keywords
