Abstract
Native plant species newly recorded for Campbell Island are: Lycopodium cf. australianum, Rumex flexuosus, R. negleclus, Cotula dispersa subsp. dispersa, Acianthus viridis, and possibly Puccinellia macquariensis hitherto regarded as an endemic grass of Macquarie Island. Additions to the exotic flora include cultivars, garden escapes, and otner largely ephemeral introductions. These are: the weeds Cardamine hirsuta, Polygonum convolvulus, Geranium pusillum, Hypericum and-drosaemum, Aphanes microcarpum, Chrysanthemum leucanthemum, Sonchus oleraceus, Taraxacum officinale, Solatium nigrum agg., Veronica arvensis, Juncus articulatus, Agropyron repens, Bromus “breviaristatus”, Lolium multiflorum, Vulpia bromoides, and the cultivars or garden escapes Brassica oleracea var. capitata, Raphanus sativus. Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris, Fragaria × ananassa, Ribes nigrum, Betula papyrifera, Daucus carota, Lactuca sativa, and Allium cepa. Convolvulus arvensis, Sonchus littoralis, Corybas oblongus, and C. macranthus are deleted from the flora, having been originally included on the basis of either incorrect identification or currently invalid taxonomy. Schizeleima reniforme, Juncus sarophorus, Chionochloa australis, and Poa matthewsii are similarly treated, there being sufficient doubt that authentic collections were ever made. Records of other transitory adventives, thought to be currently absent, are discussed and clarification of some earlier reports, distribution notes for restricted species, and comments on pertinent taxonomic problems are included.
