Abstract
Hypertension and hypervolemia (hyperdynamic therapy) form the foundation upon which most medical treatment for ischemic symptoms due to vasospasm rests. The historical basis and changes in management of hyperdynamic therapy are detailed, and the results of peer-reviewed clinical series using hyperdynamic therapy are examined. Clinical and laboratory data on induced hypertension, hypervolemia, cardiac output, hemodilution, and oxygen transport, which have influenced treatment strategies, are critically evaluated. Last, areas of future investigation and treatment are discussed.
