Inner ear damage induced by bacteria (Mycobacterium fortuitum). Disorders of vestibular functions.

Abstract
Vestibular functions were investigated in mice with inner ear damage induced by Mycobacterium fortuitum injected into the caudal vein. After the injection of M. fortuitum, the behavior of the mice was observed and recorded:1. behavior in the open field, 2. auditory startle reflex, 3. transversing a narrow path, 4. descending a rope, 5. negative geotaxis, 6. grasping a rod, 7. swimming.Seven days after the injection, some mice showed abnormal behavior, such as inability to standing, swim, transverse a narrow path, graspe rod, or descend a rope or negative geotaxis. Such abnormal behavior was observed in 60-70% of the mice 14 days after the injection of M. fortuitum.
