Abstract
A simple apparatus is described for the determination of phases and the investigation of sluggish phase transformations in ferromagnetic alloys by means of magnetic measurements made at elevated temperatures. The force exerted on a small sample is measured when it is suspended in a furnace held between the poles of an electromagnet which produce a magnetic field of uniform gradient. A few measurements on stainless steel are included. Keywords
