Abstract
An alternative model of laser clipping distortion for AM-VSB CATV systems is presented. The model predicts the clipping contribution at any channel for all orders of distortion in a closed form solution. The model is shown to closely agree with experimental data and have a substantial improvement over the conventional method. In conjunction with noise requirements, the model is then used to determine the required modulation index, channel capacity, and output optical power. Keywords
