Abstract
So far as in known with certainty prolonged incubation of larvae within mantle cavity of cirripedes is confined to very few spp., all but one being deep water or parasitic forms. Remainder of Cirripedia all produce many relatively small eggs which after hatching pass through 6 free-living nauplius stages with progressive size increase. Restriction of sp. to shore would appear to be due to surface swimming and gregarious setting. This behavior probably accounts for swarming of cyprids.at water''s edge, especially as the tide recedes. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
