Abstract
COMMITTEE ON MATERNAL WELFARE AORTIC STENOSIS WITH SUDDEN DEATHA 31-year-old gravida 2, para 1, with 11 years between pregnancies, died six weeks post partum.Allegedly well in her first pregnancy, this patient suffered her last of several bouts of active rheumatic fever shortly before the present pregnancy began. Subacute bacterial endocarditis had been suspected but excluded by blood cultures. At 15 weeks she first applied for care and was admitted to the hospital because of congestive heart failure after very slight exertion, presenting Grade 4 systolic and Grade 3 diastolic aortic murmurs loud enough to obscure any other sounds. . . .
