Abstract
The haemopoietic effects of moderate doses of the glyceryl ethers, batyl alcohol and selachyl alcohol have been studied in a total of 32 guinea pigs given five daily subcutaneous injections of arachis oil alone, and arachis oil containing in solution 4 mg. of batyl or selachyl alcohoL The animals were killed on the 6th day, and the blood and bone marrow changes observed by a quantitative technique. The results suggest that batyl alcohol at this dose level may be an erythropoietic stimulus in the guinea pig whereas selachyl alcohol is not In addition, batyl alcohol exerts an influence on the lymphocytic but not the granulocytic population of the bone marrow. Keywords
