The principle of operation of the “Laves-Ernst” compensator in polarized reflected light is explained and illustrated by means of the contrast generated between large and lamellar orthorhombic domains of single crystals and epitaxial layers of YBa2Cu3O7-δ (“YBCO”).Keywords
