Abstract
The (,2p) and (, pn) reactions were studied by coincidence detection of the outgoing nucleons on C, Fe, and Bi at 165 and 245 MeV and on and at 165 MeV. The quasideuteron component is identified and found to account for only about 10% of the absorption cross section for carbon down to about 2% for bismuth. With corrections for the final-state interaction of outgoing nucleons it amounts to at most 40%. The data indicate that quasideuteron absorption following pion scattering is not likely. The absorption on T=1 nucleon pairs is about 4% of that on quasideuterons.
