Abstract
A method for recovery of reciprocal products re-sulting from asymmetrical exchange within the white locus of Drosophila melanogaster is described. The analysis of the two complementary exchange products indicates they represent a duplication and a deficiency for a portion of the locus. The significance of such an exchange is discussed with regard to gene evolution and with regard to the structure and function of this complex locus.
