Abstract
The phonon Raman spectrum has been measured in single crystals of the transparent ferromagnet FeBO3. A pure sample (Tc = 350°K) and a sample containing 10% Ga (Tc = 272°K) were investigated, and in each case three strong lines of Eg symmetry were seen at 279, 401, and 1210 cm−1. Three weaker lines were observed at 535, 641 (Eg), and 926 cm−1 (A1g); the 535 cm−1 line was only visible at liquid‐helium temperature. The temperature dependence of the spectrum was measured from 20° to 370°K, and it was found that for both samples in the region of Tc the magnitudes of the lines decreased relative to the 926‐cm−1 line by factors of 2.45 (1210 cm−1), 2.1 (644 cm−1), 2.5 (401 cm−1), and 1.3 (279 cm−1). This behavior is similar to that of the 168‐cm−1 Raman line of CdCr2Se4.This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
