Abstract
Equations have been derived for calculating the transmittance vs wavelength curves of a conventional two-stage focal isolation system. Resolution equations are also derived for an alternate focal isolation system. The equations have been programmed on an IBM 1620 computer and the results are presented graphically. These results can be used to design focal isolation systems using any lens material. Antichromatic lens combinations are introduced. Antichromats are lens combinations of differing dispersions designed to give maximum chromatic aberration. The extension of the resolution of focal isolation systems using antichromats to the visible region of the spectrum is also discussed. An example illustrating the use of the resolution curves is given for both types of focal isolation systems. Keywords
