Abstract
Detailed measurements have been made of the lateral distribution of induced charge on wire cathodes in a multiwire proportional chamber. The results are in close agreement with the predictions of a theoretical model in which the effect of ground planes behind the cathodes, avalanche angular localisation, and signal processing are included. Keywords
