Abstract
[[abstract]]A unified treatment of the axial and azimuthal bunching mechanisms of the electromagnetic electron cyclotron instability is presented. An electron ensemble of cold helical trajectories is assumed. It is shown that the two bunching mechanisms compete with each other and the type of instability produced is determined by the dominant mechanism. Gyrotron applications are discussed.[[fileno]]2010126010013[[department]]物理Keywords
