Abstract
The volume change produced by the martensitic transformation in lithium and sodium has been measurcd. The h.c.p. phase has in lithium a smaller volume, and in sodium a larger volume, than the cubic phase. The values are δV/V≃−7×10−4 and δV/V≃+3×10−3 for lithium and sodium respectively. Keywords
