Abstract
To the Editor: Davis' article on cigarette advertising (March 19 issue)* cites Hadassah Magazine as a "Jewish-oriented publication" in which "cigarette advertisements have appeared."Dr. Davis and your readers should know that Hadassah Magazine discontinued all advertising for tobacco products, effective with its January 1987 issue. The widely publicized decision won the public praise of U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop and made the magazine 1 of only 36 consumer publications in the nation to refuse advertising for cigarettes.In taking this action, the executive committee of Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, noted, "For 75 years Hadassah has . . .This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
