Abstract
The dynamical properties of a uniform-coupling Ising-model ferromagnet in contact with a thermal reservoir are studied using density-operator methods. We proceed from the reversible microscopic dynamics of the system reservoir to an irreversible equation of motion for the macroscopic magnetization probability density. The temporal evolution of the spin system is seen to depend upon details of the reservoir system, while the steady-state results yield the correct magnetic free energy and equation of state, independent of such details. Keywords
