Abstract
Linear shell theory was used to develop an analysis for predicting the frequency spectrum of isotropic simply supported conical shells. An experimental investigation was performed in conjunction with this analysis. The experimental frequencies were compared with the developed theory. The results were in good agreement with the theoretical analysis. The experimental data were also compared with equivalent cylindrical shell theory. This approximation gave good results for the minimum frequencies and frequencies at low circumferential wave numbers. A secondary experimental investigation was conducted for cantilevered conical shells. Keywords
