Abstract
The relationship between the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K‐ABC) and neuropsychological performance in neurologically impaired children was examined in an attempt to interpret K‐ABC findings in terms of a hemispheric specialization model. For comparison, the relationship between the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children‐Revised (WISC‐R) and hemispheric functioning was also examined. Hemispheric functioning was determined by mean performance level on several neuropsychological measures of presumed lateralized function. Results lend some support to a hemispheric model for interpreting K‐ABC Simultaneous Processing (SIM) and Sequential Processing (SEQ) scores. The correlation between SIM and right‐hemisphere (RH) functioning was significantly stronger than that between WISC‐R Performance IQ and RH functioning; the correlation between SEQ and left‐hemisphere (LH) functioning, however, was weaker than that between WISC‐R Verbal IQ and LH functioning. Keywords
