Reflection Spectrophotometry

Abstract
Spectral transmittance and reflectance measurements were made on various strata of both white and Negro excised skin. From the color parameters so outlined, the absorption characteristics of skin were determined. Mathematical treatment of the data by the method of characteristic vectors revealed only one pigment—melanin—present in normal epidermis. The parameters were also used to obtain a color specification of both white and Negro complexions.
