Abstract
The Zeeman effect of the 3T1(P) state of Ni2+(3d8) in cubic ZnS has been investigated in absorption, under magnetic fields up to 10 T, where complete mixing of the Gamma 5 and Gamma 3 spin-orbit zero field states occurs. The analysis supports a previous suggestion that a dynamic Jahn-Teller effect occurs in the excited 3T1(P) state. Keywords
