Abstract
[T]he threads between minds are very thin and hard to hold. Sarah and David just met. He asks her to dance. They begin. He steps on her toes. She smiles. He winces. She thinks, “What a clod.” He thinks, “What a martyr.” He says, “I'm sorry. I'm not a very good dancer.” She says, “You're doing fine.” He thinks, “How can I get out of this mess?” She thinks, [Page 145] “Please let this dance be over.” Obviously Sarah and David are not impressed with each other.
