Abstract
An analytic expression is obtained for the response to the sequence P y (90°)-τ-P α(β)-t′ of a rectangular array of two equivalent pairs of spins-½. The properties of this simple model are analysed with the object of using it as a starting point for the interpretation of the solid echo transverse relaxation functions observed in liquid crystals, solid paraffins, polyethylene and salt hydrates and which are to be described in subsequent papers. A comparison is made with previous numerical calculations for a similar model. Keywords
