Abstract
A generalized form of the conventional polyphase symmetrical component transformation is proposed. This includes time dependent phase shifts. It is applied directly to the dynamical equations of a polyphase induction machine and it is shown that the system differential equations are greatly simplified by appropriate choice of the phase shift functions. The physical meaning of the sequence components is explained in terms of machine mmf and flux harmonics. Keywords
