Abstract
Ammonium tungstosilicate [(NH4)4SiW12O40] is being tested as the solid adsorbent in gas-solid chromatography for the separation of lower hydrocarbons and permanent gases. The nonporous glass beads-supported ammonium tungstosilicate (20%) column (6 ft × ⅛ in.) is tested for its performance in the separation of methane, ethane, propane, and n-butane in both isothermal and temperature programmed runs. The fractionation of the mixture containing methane, ethane, ethylene, acetylene, propane, propylene, and n-butane is achieved in a temperature programmed run. The peak areas and retention times are reproducible to a large extent. Ammonium tungstosilicate seems to be an effective adsorbent in the separation of nitrogen, methane, and carbon dioxide at isothermal conditions. Keywords
