Abstract
This paper describes an adaptive dynamic speech companding algorithm, appropriate to Single sideband (SSB) transmission over mobile channels. A general description of the proposed system is followed by an evaluation of the various parameters. A real-time experimental prototype was implemented using a programmable digital signal processor, and was used to conduct the subjective tests reported in this paper. The proposed system can improve the signal to noise ratio by up to 35 dB.Keywords
