Abstract
The effect of induced tension of varying magnitudes, in relation to subjects'' maximum pull, upon the memory span for digits was studied. In general the greater the induced tension, the greater the facilitation. The data supported the findings of other experiments concerning the relation between optimal tension and task difficulty. The performance of both good and poor performers was improved. For the latter, the more difficult tasks were facilitated by the greater tensions. Keywords
