Abstract
Concepts of preventing and solving problems of social functioning are presented within the framework of a model adapted from orthopedics. Thus, social rehabilitation is seen in terms of relief of social and psychological pain; prevention of social deformities and pressure sores; strengthening remaining capacities; and maintenance of maximum social functioning and of life. Special attention is given to the dangers of incorrect evaluation of social stability after discharge.
