Evaluation of Solid Supports for the Gas Chromatographic Analysis of Esterified Estrogens

Abstract
An investigation of a number of commercially available, acidwashed, silane-treated solid supports indicated that the majority tested were unsatisfactory for gas chromatographic analysis of esterified estrogens. Depending on the cause of the poor chromatographic performance, the supports could be improved either by resieving to remove fine particles or by resieving and resilanization to prevent adsorption. Sieving, acid-washing and silanization of nonacid-washed flux-calcined diatomites in our laboratory consistently resulted in satisfactory supports.
