Abstract
In the succession from an old field to an oak-hickory climax forest on the inner edge of the Coastal Plain of Maryland, the Virginia pine (Pinus virginiana Mill.) is the first tree invader. It reaches maturity, dies, and is replaced by hardwood stands.Keywords
