Abstract
It is pointed out that some statements in a recent paper by Srinivas and Davies [1], concerning the validity of the so-called Mandel photon counting formula and its relation to another formula derived by the authors, are not correct. The former formula applies to an open system and the latter to a closed system, but conditions for the former are much more commonly encountered in practice. Keywords
