Abstract
Extreme perceptual field dependence, found to characterize alcoholics was studied to find if it persists through phases of the alcoholismic cycle. Field dependence may be a contributory factor in the development of alcoholism or a consequence of it. Evidence of field dependence stability would suggest it may be a contributory factor. No significant difference in extent of field dependence was found between drinking and abstaining alcoholics. This suggests that extreme field dependence is a stable characteristic of alcoholics, whether they are presently drinking or have achieved sobriety. A.A. Alcoholics Anonymous members, both currently drinking and in remission, were significantly less field dependent than patients attending an alcoholism clinic. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
