Abstract
Separate cases of parallel evolution in climatically similar but biogeographically isolated areas could sometimes produce divergent results. Convergence should not automatically be expected. Historical factors played a much more important evolutionary role than generally recognized. Different selective solutions to environmental conditions would reflect the selective pressures to which the species had been subjected. Test of ecological theory using isolated ecosystems with similar climatic regions must be viewed as 1-sided unless convergence was considered.
