Abstract
The range of the Twite in central Britain has contracted during the present century. Its headquarters today are the Southern Pennines, where it feeds in the upland pastures and nests in a variety of moorland habitats. This investigation reports on its present status and distribution, and describes in detail the bird's roosting, feeding and nesting habits, covering in general its ecological adaptation to this bleak and often inhospitable environment.
