Handaxe industries in Israel and the Near East

Abstract
The general lines of the evolution of the handaxe industries in the Near East are indicated. The main characteristics of the Early, Middle and Late Acheulian groups are discussed and the recent Quaternary research in this period is summarized. The geographical distribution, bearing on ecological settlement patterns, is analysed. Finally the current research projects in this period are mentioned.Keywords
