The “Happy Puppet” Syndrome: Two New Cases and a Review of Five Previous Cases

Abstract
The main features of the “Happy Puppet” Syndrome are severe motor and intellectual retardation, ataxia, hypotonia, characteristic facies with a large mandible, and epilepsy. The E. E. G. shows bilateral high amplitude spike and wave activity, the slow wave component being at 2 c. sec. Two children with these features are compared with the five previously reported cases. The condition is non-progressive. The aetiology is unknown and there is no specific treatment. Es wird von zwei Kindern berichtet, die die Eigenarten des „Happy Puppet” Syndroms haben, nämlich schwere motorische und geistige Zurückgebliebenheit „Ataxia”, Hypotonie und charakteristische Gesichter (facies) mit großen Mandibeln. Die Epilepsie ist im Zusammenhang mit einem typischen EEG, welches hohe bilaterale Spike-Wave-Aktivität zeigt, ein weiteres Charakteristikum. Die langsame Wellenkomponente liegt bei 2 Hz. Fünf früher publizierte Fälle werden zum Vergleich herangezogen.
