Abstract
Recent surveys of the distribution of the collembolan Sminthurus viridis and the predatory bdellid mite, Bdellodes lapidaria have shown that the mite is uncommon in that part of far north‐west Tasmania where S. viridis is a pest. Possible factors limiting the mite's distribution in this region and its success as a biological control agent in Tasmania are discussed. Keywords
