Abstract
The author discusses the problem of relapse with alcoholics and other drug abusers from three perspectives: clientrelated variables, common erroneous beliefs and myths held by professionals regarding relapse, and treatment system problems that may contribute to relapse. Proposed solutions are offered and a relapse prevention model is described. This article integrates clinical experience, relapse literature, and data collected on 150 patients who completed treatment. Keywords
