Abstract
The relative basic strengths of a series of substituted acetanilides in acetic acid have been determined both potentiometrically and spectrophotometrically. The relative potentials at half-neutralization of the bases with perchloric acid, in both acetic acid and acetic anhydride, have been determined. Ionization constants of the bases with perchloric acid were obtained using N,N-diethyl-2,4-dinitroaniline as indicator base. The effect of substitution on basic strength is discussed.
