Preparation of myelin using the L-4 zonal ultraceatrifuge

Abstract
A method for the isolation of large amounts of myelin from human white matter has been developed, using the zonal ultracentrifuge. The myelin prepared by this method compares favorably with the method previously used for smaller amounts of myelin. The composition of the isolated myelin was 8–12 μg P/mg, 18–22% protein, 0.072–0.128% RNA, 0.05–0.07% DNA, and was 95% soluble in chloroform–methanol 2:1 v/v.
