Abstract
Attention to relevant soil factors has become necessary for the development of increasingly intensive management of plantations. This paper shows how soil information was used together with local knowledge and a computer-based information system to provide data for silvicultural management, such as site index definition, response to fertilisation, efficacy of weed control, soil moisture status, drought potential, windthrow, and trafficability for scheduling harvesting.
