Abstract
K. pneumoniae is a human and animal pathogen frequently encountered in the environment. The membrane-filtration method utilizing m-FC medium for the detection of fecal coliforms yields a colony type easily distinguishable as K. pneumoniae. These colonies appear as atypical light blue, nucleated, mucoid colonies differing considerably from the typical dark blue fecal coliform colonies.
