Abstract
A new technique for automating a Mössbauer mechanical spectrometer is described, which permits arbitrary velocity increments to be programmed on a tape prior to data collection. This novel feature permits optimum efficiency in accumulating data and allows considerable flexibility in measuring particular lines in a Mössbauer spectrum. The system is completely automated and does not require the use of a multichannel analyzer. The velocity stability and uniformity of the complete automated system described was better than 0.1%, and the measured line width for 57Fe in a thin absorber was only 10% greater than the theoretical limit. Keywords
