Abstract
Children and adolescents have recently become a target group for health promotion efforts. Studies of health promotion programs within schools have already demonstrated promising outcomes with students and parents. Since there is confusion regarding the relevance of health promotion activities, a rationale for such activities is provided. The Minnesota Heart Health Program is described as an example of a health promotion program partly carried out through the schools. The potential roles for the school psychologist in designing and initiating health consultation programs are addressed at several levels from individual consultation with students to multi-staged intervention activities.
