Growth of L-M Strain Mouse Cells in a Chemically Defined Medium.

Abstract
L-M strain mouse cells have been grown in 2X Eagle medium without supplement for 3 yrs. In monolayer culture the mean population doubling time is 56 hrs. With 2 or 3 medium changes the population density may reach 2 X 106 cells/ml. The cells are quite fragile and require addition of a protective compound such as methyl cellulose at the time of transplant. Suspension cultures can be achieved by the addition of methylcellulose. The mean population doubling time in suspension cultures is 73 hrs and maximum density is 1 to 1.5 x 106 cells per ml.
