Abstract
Recently a series of experiments on the EPR of pairs of coupled rare‐earth ions in the light rare‐earth halides have been reported. From these experiments it is possible to obtain very detailed information about the mechanisms responsible for nonradiative energy transfer. In particular, it is shown that superexchange is much more effective than normally assumed both in terms of selection rules and range. Keywords
